the Story
The Seller of Rings (Biya el-Khawatim – بياع الخواتم), released in 1965, is one of the most iconic works in Lebanese and Arab cinema. Directed by the legendary filmmaker Youssef Chahine and starring the timeless voice of Fairuz, the film is a cinematic adaptation of the celebrated stage operetta created by the Rahbani brothers, Assi and Mansour Rahbani.
Set in a serene fictional Lebanese village, the story unfolds with poetic humor and social satire. To maintain his authority, the village mayor invents an imaginary villain named Rajeh, blaming him for every disturbance. However, when a real man named Rajeh — a humble ring seller — arrives to arrange his son’s marriage to the mayor’s niece, fiction collides with reality. The villagers soon find themselves trapped in their own invention, leading to chaos, comedy, and reflection.
Renowned for its lyrical dialogue, unforgettable musical compositions, and idyllic portrayal of traditional Lebanese village life, The Seller of Rings remains a cornerstone of Lebanese cultural identity and one of Fairuz’s most beloved cinematic roles.
This monumental original poster, illustrated by distinguished Lebanese artist Marc Hanna, stands as a rare museum-scale collectible — a true tribute to the golden age of Middle Eastern cinema.
