Cold has always been my nemesis. Winter meant suffering with frozen fingers and burning ears. So, when my older brother Mick told me he was going to start playing ice hockey, I thought he had completely lost it. It seemed impossible that someone I admired could make such a ridiculous decision. Nevertheless, I went to his first match with the girls from next door, Elizabeth and Carol. To my surprise, they started cheering madly for him, squealing his name every time he touched the puck. Despite his acne, braces, and big ears, they were enamored by him. It didn’t take long before I decided to sign up for the team myself. Who cares about the cold when you’ve got fans like that?
