Alfredo Pozzi, or “Bowleggs” as we called him, was a football prodigy during our school days. His dribbling skills were legendary, leaving even the biggest kids in the dust during matches at Richieri school. We all envied his talent and the effortless way he handled the ball. But as life often does, it led him down a path of indulgence—good food, good drinks, and a slower pace. And, well, when you start putting on a bit of weight, things change.

Last Sunday, during a match at the club, Bowleggs took the field, playing in his old number 10 position. It was a sad sight. When it came time for him to take a corner kick, something went horribly wrong. He lined up, ready to unleash one of his signature kicks, but instead, his belly threw him off balance. He completely missed the ball and ended up taking a huge swipe at the grass.

This week, I tried calling him, but there’s been no answer. Maybe he’s off somewhere on a trip, trying to forget the embarrassment.
