At the intersection of nature, craftsmanship, and contemporary artistic expression, sooqbeirut, in collaboration with House of Clay, proudly presented Forms of Belonging: A Sculptural Journey at One Hive at the serene gardens of One Hive, nestled within the iconic One&Only Royal Mirage.
Set within one of Dubai’s most tranquil and thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces, the showcase invited visitors to experience sculpture not as static objects placed within a landscape, but as living forms in quiet dialogue with their surroundings. Framed by flourishing greenery, flowering pathways, and the organic rhythm of the One Hive gardens, the exhibition became a meditation on connection between material and nature, artist and space, individual and collective belonging.
This installation marked another meaningful chapter in sooqbeirut’s ongoing collaboration with One&Only Royal Mirage, continuing our mission of bringing carefully curated contemporary art into exceptional hospitality spaces where art can be experienced intimately and organically.
The Meaning Behind “Forms of Belonging”
Belonging is a deeply human need, the desire to connect, to root ourselves in places, people, memory, and meaning.
The title Forms of Belonging reflects this universal longing while exploring how form itself can carry emotional resonance. Through ceramic sculpture, each piece in the showcase interpreted belonging differently: through clustered figures standing in quiet communion, through fragmented circular forms that suggest rupture and renewal, and through rounded organic vessels evoking protection, growth, and emergence.
The exhibition explored belonging not as a fixed destination, but as a continuous becoming, shaped by relationships, memory, movement, and transformation.
Placed within the natural sanctuary of One Hive, these sculptural works felt as though they had emerged from the earth itself, seamlessly inhabiting the landscape while inviting contemplation from every angle.
House of Clay: Where Material Becomes Memory
At the heart of this showcase was House of Clay, whose artistic philosophy resonates profoundly with the themes of transformation and rootedness.
Clay is one of humanity’s oldest creative materials. It carries the memory of touch, pressure, shaping, and fire. It is simultaneously fragile and enduring, capable of becoming vessels, monuments, or abstract expressions of inner worlds.
The House of Clay collection presented at One Hive reflected this timeless materiality through works that balanced rawness with refinement. Their sculptural language is deeply tactile, organic, and emotionally resonant, allowing texture, contour, and surface to speak as eloquently as form.
The pieces on display ranged from monumental standing figures to intricate circular calligraphic structures and spherical forms textured with fissures and emergent figures.
Together, they created a visual narrative of coexistence.
Sculptures in Conversation with Nature
One of the most compelling aspects of Forms of Belonging was the way the sculptures engaged directly with their environment.
The tall souls ceramic forms stood like silent guardians among the palms and hedges, their elongated silhouettes echoing the verticality of surrounding trees. Their soft contours and muted earthy tones allowed them to feel almost elemental, as if shaped by wind, water, and time.
The spherical ceramic forms, cracked open and animated by small emergent figures, offered a striking metaphor for creation, resilience, and collective awakening. Their fractured surfaces suggested rupture, yet from these openings came movement and life.
Nearby, the circular calligraphic sculptures introduced rhythm and fluidity. Their looping forms created intricate shadows that shifted throughout the day, transforming under changing sunlight. These works embodied both movement and stillness, a poetic reflection of language, memory, and continuity.
Positioned thoughtfully throughout One Hive’s landscape, each sculpture created moments of pause and reflection, encouraging visitors to slow down and engage more deeply with their surroundings.
Why One Hive Was the Perfect Setting
One Hive at One&Only Royal Mirage is more than a garden.
It is a living ecosystem designed around sustainability, growth, and ecological awareness. Rooted in the symbolism of the beehive, collaboration, interconnectedness, and purposeful creation, it offered a profoundly fitting context for this sculptural narrative.
Just as bees create through collective effort, the exhibition celebrated the beauty of interconnected forms and shared presence.
The natural textures of gravel paths, flowering borders, sunlit greenery, and open skies provided a dynamic yet peaceful backdrop. Rather than competing with the sculptures, the landscape elevated them.
The works appeared almost discovered rather than installed, as if they had quietly belonged there all along.
This harmony between art and environment amplified the emotional resonance of the showcase, reinforcing its central theme: true belonging emerges when elements exist in meaningful relationship.
Art Beyond the White Cube
At sooqbeirut, we believe art should move beyond traditional gallery walls.
Art gains new meaning when placed in lived spaces, where people encounter it unexpectedly, intuitively, and repeatedly.
Hospitality spaces like One&Only Royal Mirage offer a unique opportunity for this kind of engagement. Guests experience art not as formal spectators but as participants within an atmosphere shaped by beauty, reflection, and sensory richness.
Forms of Belonging demonstrated how sculpture can transform an outdoor setting into a contemplative cultural experience.
It invited visitors to wander, pause, observe, and interpret freely.
This is precisely the kind of dialogue sooqbeirut seeks to create through its curatorial partnerships: one where art becomes part of the emotional architecture of a place.
A Shared Vision
This showcase was made possible through a shared commitment to thoughtful curation and meaningful artistic experiences.
The collaboration between sooqbeirut, House of Clay, and One&Only Royal Mirage reflects a mutual belief that art has the power to deepen our connection to spaces and to one another.
By integrating contemporary ceramic sculpture into the natural rhythm of One Hive, we created an experience that was both visually striking and emotionally grounded.
It was not simply an exhibition.
It was an invitation to reflect on where we belong, how we connect, and how beauty can emerge through form, material, and place.
Continuing the Journey
Forms of Belonging stands as a testament to the transformative power of curated art experiences within hospitality spaces.
For sooqbeirut, it also reinforces our ongoing mission to champion artists and create thoughtful encounters between art, architecture, and community.
As we continue building collaborations that bridge contemporary art with exceptional environments, this showcase remains a powerful reminder that belonging is not only something we seek, it is something we create.
At One Hive, among clay, sunlight, and stillness, these forms found their place.
And in doing so, they invited us to consider our own.
