I have focused on portrait painting since beginning of my artistic journey; emulating the contemporary woman in all her beauty, power and diversity is what inspires me. Depicting who I felt represented my generation and highlighting her inherent strength and confidence has been my sole focus. Woman have fought long and hard for their rights, and still do – seeing women marginalized and considered docile, I wanted to be a part of the global force that is actively changing that. I want to portray the independent woman, inspired by the new paths woman have paved for themselves universally. 

The diverse women in my paintings radiate power and femininity. Her eyes are covered, immersed in blooming florals that wrap around, trailing and extending beyond the canvas. By covering her eyes and leaving that part to the imagination, it evokes a sense of universal familiarity and invites a connection to the artwork on a personal level. The solid background exists as negative space; there to compliment and return the focus on the woman. The flora crowns are a combination of large blooming florals and small wildflowers emphasizing natures’ mystic and whimsical awe.  The integration of woman and florals speaks to our intimate connection with nature and the power they both hold. Weaving nature and woman creates a dual force that elevates and supports both their importance. 

In my work, the woman is ever-so-prominent, exuding an undeniable force. I would hope that it is empowering to all women, whoever and wherever they come from, to feel as though they are part of this revolution, connecting them to the past, present and future woman. I hope when they look at my work, it empowers them, and they can see their own strength and beauty within.
