Bassam Kyrillos is a pioneering Lebanese sculptor renowned for his thought-provoking and architecturally rooted artworks. Born in Byblos in 1970, Kyrillos has played a significant role in shaping the region’s contemporary art scene. He continues to live and work in Byblos, where he creates monumental sculptures and figurative pieces that explore themes of destruction, regeneration, and resilience.

Kyrillos pursued his formal education in visual arts, earning a BA from the Lebanese University in 1995. His academic journey continued at Damascus University, where he obtained a BA (2005) and MA (2007) in Visual Arts. He later moved to Paris, completing an MA (2008) and a PhD in Visual Arts (2014) at the University of Sorbonne.

Best known for his mastery of bronze and aluminum casting techniques, Kyrillos integrates industrial materials such as cement and soil into his works, reinforcing the urban narratives that define his artistic identity. His sculptures often depict leaning high-rises, cracked facades, and fragmented structures, symbolizing the fragile balance between devastation and renewal. Through the creative use of light and shadow, he introduces an element of hope, highlighting the enduring resilience of cities and societies affected by conflict.

In addition to his artistic practice, Kyrillos has been an influential figure in the Lebanese and international art community. He served as President of the Lebanese Artists Association for Painting and Sculpture (2000–2002) and Vice President of the International Art Association (2002–2005). Currently, he is a Professor of Painting and Sculpture at the Lebanese University in Beirut, where he mentors the next generation of artists.

Kyrillos’s work has been exhibited in prestigious art galleries, biennials, and museums, solidifying his reputation as a leading force in Middle Eastern contemporary sculpture.
